HANF supports wellness and prevention programs that promote healthy lifestyles for Alaska Natives to help avoid long-term health problems before they start.

Since 2010, HANF has funded the following wellness and prevention efforts:

  • promoting dental health through support for the Dental Health Aide Therapists (DHAT) Program, including mobile equipment that allows therapists to see patients in rural villages and new equipment for the DHAT Training Center
  • injury prevention efforts to decrease ATV/Snowmachine and Boating injuries
  • cancer awareness and comfort bags for cancer and palliative (end-of-life) care
  • support for grief camps, Camp Coho I (for children affected by the loss of a loved one to cancer), and the new Camp Coho II (for children affected by the loss of a loved one to┬ásuicide)
  • support for health education camps such as the Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) camp for children affected by JRA and their families
  • digital storytelling equipment for wellness and prevention outreach efforts
