Volunteers and donors make a difference for elders

Posted on February 13, 2012 in Events

The Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation (HANF) plays many roles in supporting our consortium’s vision, as well as working to better Alaska Native life around the state. Recently the foundation gathered volunteers to visit a group of Alaska Native elders staying at Providence Extended Care. Volunteers talked with elders and provided lunch, which included traditional dishes like akutaq, salmon and halibut, and nontraditional favorites like collard greens. The group delivered care packages consisting of socks, blankets and food items, all of which were donated to the foundation by ANTHC staff. The event was part of an ongoing outreach effort by ANTHC’s Kay Branch and the Elder Care Program, which the foundation supports.
