Thrive! in Rural Alaska

2016 Thrive Web Button v3

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) and Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation is honored to work alongside our community in pursuit of our collective vision that Alaska Native people are the healthiest in the world.

More than half of the patients at the Alaska Native Medical Center hospital travel from outside Anchorage to access a broad variety of health services.  They need a safe place to heal and recover. The current patient housing facility, the Quyana House, adjacent to our hospital, provides 54 semi-private rooms. ANTHC also contracts with local hotels to ensure that there is enough housing for everyone who needs it. But that is not enough. In response to our communities request for increasing on-campus housing, ANTHC is actively fundraising to complete the construction of a new Patient Housing Facility, which has 202 rooms and will be connected to the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) by skybridge, dramatically increasing access to care for our patients. It will also have a floor dedicated to Alaska’s first Ronald McDonald House.

We are pleased to host a series of statewide Comedy Shows featuring James & Ernie, from the Navajo Nation, who use humor to inspire health and wellness. As Native Americans, they face the same challenges we do here in Alaska. They use their comedy shows as an avenue incorporating uplifting messaging strategies, encouraging living a positive healthy life. They eloquently include moments about suicide prevention, healthy marriages and anti-bullying – then quickly turn the show back around to being funny. Their target audience is children/teens to Elders. Proceeds from the shows benefit the Patient Housing Facility.

Together, we can continue to work towards achieving our vision that Alaska Native people are the healthiest people in the world. Improving access to care through expanding lodging for our patients is just a step towards achieving this vision.

The ANTHC Patient Housing Comedy Show dates are:
