HANF’s 2nd annual golf tournament fundraiser a great success

ANTHC’s Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation (HANF) team is always working hard to connect donors, volunteers and advocates to ANTHC’s work in helping Alaska Native people become the healthiest people in the world. Last Friday, HANF took its work and supporters back to the greens for the 2nd annual Teeing Off for Tribal Health Golf Classic, a one-day event that drew 82 players and 21 teams playing to raise funds and awareness for HANF.

The tournament raised more than $30,000 for HANF, beating last’s year’s earnings. The tournament was held at Eagleglen Golf Course on JBER. Sixteen volunteers from ANTHC, Klondike Advertising & Doyon Limited helped the day run smoothly. A team sponsored by local online newspaper Alaska Dispatch took the team victory; a team of two called ‘The Larrys’ consisting of Larry Cleland of KNBA and Larry Sweesy of Craig Taylor Equipment took second. HANF Director Carrie Brown said the tournament was well received and is already booked next summer for July 25.

HANF thanks all golfers and volunteers, as well as sponsors UIC, GCI Connect MD, WisconsinRx/NationalRx, Alaska Permanent Capital Management, Bristol Bay Native Corporation, Bradley Reid + Associates, Cornerstone Construction Alaska Rubber & Supply, ASRC Energy, Doyon, Ltd., VALIC, ConocoPhillips, Northern Printing, Klondike Advertising, Great Original, Alaska National Insurance Company and Channel Construction.

“I sincerely thank all of our sponsors, players and volunteers, said Carrie Brown,” HANF Director. “The tournament was a great success and we are already looking forward to next year.”

HANF’s work continues in the coming weeks. HANF is working out the details on its first “wearable art” auction, set for this fall; the group will recruit for donated purses, jewelry, scarves and other items in the coming weeks. The event is just one piece of HANF’s fall workplace giving campaign, which hopes to engage participation from ANTHC’s leadership and staff.
