2012 Raven’s Ball sets new standards for fundraising and tribal health support

Posted on April 13, 2012 in Events

The results are in from last month’s sold out Raven’s Ball, and they are impressive. The fifth annual edition of the black-tie affair and signature fundraising event for the Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation brought in a new record of $335,000 in sponsorships and cash contributions. That total eclipses last year’s Raven’s Ball by $10,000.

Donations from corporations and individuals are vital to Raven’s Ball success — this year the Foundation received donations valued at more than $100,000. Nearly $32,000 was raised during the “paddle raise,” a silent auction which directed funds to Camp Coho, a summer camp where Alaska Native children can honor the memory of a loved one who died from cancer or a traumatic death such as suicide.

“The results of this year’s Raven’s Ball will make a positive impact in ANTHC’s work for many years,” explained Carrie Brown, HANF Director, “but this year’s Raven’s Ball also felt like a celebration of many people and partners coming together in support of tribal health everywhere. It was truly inspiring.”

This year’s Raven’s Ball also offered the opportunity to celebrate the annual Luminary Award winners for their dedication and outstanding contribution to the Alaska Tribal Health System and community. This year’s Luminary Awards recipients were Lloyd Miller (President’s Award), Valerie Davidson (Legacy and Leadership Award), Dr. James Tiesinga (Distinguished Provider Award), and Sid Smith (Community Spirit Award).

Raven’s Ball raises awareness and funding to further the vision of ANTHC: that Alaska Native people are the healthiest people in the world. Through targeted initiatives and in the spirit of working together, the Foundation helps provide the resources and tools necessary to achieve individual and community health objectives.

Anyone who missed Raven’s Ball can still support the foundation and bid on cool prizes at the Foundation’s online auction, which will take place April 23-May 4. We will provide more information and the auction website in the coming weeks.

Brown, the HANF team and ANTHC thanks donors, volunteers and Raven’s Ball participants for their support. And please save the date for next year’s event: Saturday, May 23, 2013.
